We’re so pleased to share the news: our friends over at Trafika Europe are taking a big step forward with European literature. They’re introducing a European literary events calendar, for events in, from, and about the 47 Council of Europe countries — basically the whole continent of Europe — accessible to English-language speakers.
“We want to help reinforce the idea of a culturally open Europe, consisting of many interconnected languages, cultures and literary communities,” says Trafika Europe director Andrew Singer. “This free calendar is our way to help build greater community through literary events in and from Europe. We hope to encourage more literary tourism, and offer this new, shared platform where local organizers can reach a wide international audience in English language for their events.”
It’s a bit startling at first, to perceive Europe in this way. The calendar is flexible, including a Month View, Map View and Photo View. Events can also narrowed by type, date, and location — city or country.
Trafika Europe also provides an interface for adding events to the calendar — these can be literary events in Europe, or events outside Europe involving European writers and literature. Every event you enter is curated by Trafika Europe staff before posting to the calendar.
